«Assistant of attending physician»
During the 2014-2015 academic year internship «Assistant of attending physician» for 4th year students with specialty «General Medicine» was held in more than 40 medical organizations in four regions (Almaty region, Zhambyl region, Kyzylorda region and South-Kazakhstan region). Extensive organizational collaboration was held beforehand with several units involved in the implementation and evaluation of the internship program, namely the Department of educational and methodical work, the Dean’s office of General Medicine, Department of Clinical Work, educational departments of Pediatrics, Internal Diseases №2, Surgery and Obstetrics, the Center of Practical Center and profile Committees of Educational Programs. The following work was done at the working sessions: detailed program of the internship was composed, internship blog was updated, guidelines for supervisors and medical practitioners were developed. Control over the internship was performed by dean’s deputies for 4th year. They have visited medical institutions in all regions where the internship was held. The outcome of the internship was to defend the internship work by taking the grading test, which was conducted by an independent commission of representatives from the 5th year clinical departments. After completion their internship students have left their comments and responded to the questionnaire.

It all started when we arrived at the hospital of the Narynkol village, where we were met by a very kind and good people. On the first day we were greeted by the head physician and staff. They have organised a round table and prepared a delicious dinner for us. After dinner, we were placed in a very bright and spacious wards with mountain view. All staff have shown us very friendly and honorable respect. For the first time all the doctors and nurses have shown us equality, they treated us like doctors, not like just students. All of them were interested in the fact that we can stay there later in life.

I was an intern starting from 15.05.15 to 15.06.15 at CRH of the Merke district. In general, the practice was successful and productive. During the internship I learned all needed practical skills. We all were warmly welcomed at the hospital. Doctors are very responsive and friendly. I really liked the practice because of the professionalism and competence of the doctors.

According to the survey 81.9% of respondents (there was total of 956 4th year GM students surveyed), considered internship organization as excellent and good, but 75% of the students expressed their wishes on improving housing in the place of internship. In general, all of the students surveyed indicated that they had an opportunity to fully improve the practical skills acquired at the University.
